“Sunday Sales”

“Parents try to protect their children from anything that can happen to them. This fear is amplified by the experiences of their parents as well as their own life. “Sunday Sales” explores the nexus where shame, hyper protection and projection converge. I use collage compositions throughout the works that call back to the sales I would look at in the Sunday newspaper, the first place I noticed a difference in how young black femme bodies were viewed as opposed to other children. This show explores my early childhood into adulthood and the evolving perspective of my parents as caregiviers as well as people. “
